Virginia Gao received her B.A. in Neuroscience from Columbia and her M.D. and Ph.D. from Mount Sinai. She was a Fulbright Scholar at the EPFL in Switzerland. Her Ph.D. work on the molecular mechanisms underlying memory consolidation was supervised by Cristina Alberini and funded by a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award. She then completed residency in Neurology at Weill Cornell, where she served as Chief Resident, and she is currently pursuing fellowship in Movement Disorders at Weill Cornell and Columbia. Her current research in the laboratory of Jacqueline Burré, on biochemical changes underlying Parkinson’s disease pathology in the central and enteric nervous system, is supported by the Leon Levy Fellowship in Neuroscience.
