Gretchen Birbeck is an epileptologist and tropical medicine specialist working in Zambia where she has served as a researcher, clinician and medical educator for her entire career. Her NIH-funded research programs have included studies of HIV & seizures and epilepsy-associated stigma. She is presently leading a Study of Neurological Aging among PLWH. She is Rykenboer Professor of Neurology at the University of Rochester. In Zambia, she leads the University Teaching Hospitals (UTH) Neurology Research Organization and the Chikankata Epilepsy Care Team while also serving as a consultant for UTH and lecturer at the University of Zambia.
