Michael Shy, MD

Carver College of Medicine, University of Iowa

Dr Shy's professional interests involve translational research to develop rational therapies for patients with inherited peripheral neuropathies and related neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Shy has spent over 25 years investigating molecular pathways by which mutations in genes cause demyelination and axonal degeneration in humans. Dr Shy leads the Inherited Neuropathy Consortium (INC) an international group of investigators that measures natural history of inherited neuropathies, identifies novel causes of inherited neuropathies, develops clinical outcome measures and biomarkers and helps train the next generation of investigators in the field.
