Dr. Cruz-Flores joined TTUHSCEP as tenured professor and founding chair of the Department of Neurology at Paul L Foster School of Medicine in 2013. He holds the Jim and Julie Cardwell Endowed Chair in Neurology. He attended medical school and completed completed residencies in internal medicine and neurology at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico followed by neurology residency, fellowship in cerebrovascular diseases and neurocritical care and a master’s degree in public health (epidemiology) from Saint Louis University. Dr. Cruz-Flores is board certified in Neurology, Vascular Neurology, Neurocritical Care by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and a diplomate in Neuroimaging and Neurocritical Care by the United Council of Neurological Specialties. He is Healthcare Ethics Consultant certified by the Healthcare Ethics Consultant Certification Commission. Dr. Cruz-Flores is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, American Neurological Association, Neurocritical Care Society, American College of Critical Care Medicine, American College of Physicians and the American Heart Association His scholarly work focuses on cerebrovascular diseases, critical care neurology, and racial disparities.
